Architectural Design Project: Padnal, Cambridgeshire

A new house for the East Anglian fens. The raised deck looks over an embankment at the River Lark. The materials reflect the true colours of the fen landscape with their ever changing seasonal variations.
Deep piled foundations through the peat provide support in this unstable ground close to the flood plain.
The superstructure is formed by an innovative use of polystyrene hollow blocks that are filled with concrete. The floors are also concrete, well sealed and highly insulated.
